In this episode, Sheikh Fahad travels to Morocco and meets Al Habib Al Momo, a brother with special needs, who despite that mashaaAllah, started memorizing at age 21 and finished at 27, and when tested, made no mistakes, despite having difficulty speaking subhanallah. In Egypt, Sheikh Fahad meets with Diyaa Suleiman Sayyid Suleiman, an advanced level student of the Qiraat Institute of Banha. He started memorizing at age 9 and finished at age 11. He is able to recite at the prompt of random surah and ayat number and the mutashaabihaat ayaat are also an easy thing fr him.

  • Many may wonder how long it would take them to finish memorizing the whole Quran
  • Quick calculation ; the Quran has 30 juzz, 1 juz has 20 pages
  • If your target is to finish in 1 year, you need to memorize 2 pages daily : 10 months for memorization and 2 months for revision
  • If your target is to finish in 3 years, you need to memorize 1 page daily ; 2.5 years for memorization and 5-6 months for revision
  • For those who can’t, you can shoot for 5 years; you will  need to memorize a 1/4 of a hizb [2-2.5 pages a week, and this is equivalent to less than half a page a day]
  • Brother Al Habib Al Momo is a sign, a reminder for us, to pay more attention to this Quran, teach our children the Quran

  • The prophet saw learned the Quran through Jibril, orally, and he (saw) taught it to the sahaabah orally, and so on
  • So for those who have decided to begin this beautiful journey, find a sheikh/teacher who is well versed in the recitation to teach and listen to you
  • Even if you’re an Arabic speaker, don’t be deluded and think you don’t need any assistance in reciting the Quran
  • The best Arabic speaker will need help memorizing the Quran, because this Quran is a special book whose recitation have special rules that need to be observed and practiced
  • Those who memorized only with the knowledge of Arabicm ay miss or not know certain tajweed rules
  • It’s important to learn from a qualified teacher so you can rest assured and feel that you memorized it the correct way inshaaAllah
