Traveler With the Quran: Memorize With Tajweed

In this episode Sheikh Fahad travels to Chechnya and visits the Quran Memorization center there. He also travels to Mauritania and visits Mahdarat al Muhsineen, which graduates 1000 hufaazh. He speaks and tests one of the huffaadh, Muhammad Fal, who is blind and finished memorizing at age 12.

Points of Benefit:

  • Revision, revision, revision – without this you won’t be able to continue memorizing the Quran
  • This book is not like any other book, so if we don’t revise it, we’ll forget it
  • Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Keep on reciting the Qur’an, for by Him in Whose Hand my life is, the Qur’an runs away (is forgotten ) faster than camels that are released from their lead ropes. ” [Bukhari & Muslim]
  • Memorize the Quran with tajweed for it is easy and fun to learn, and actually solidifies your memorization
  • Reciting with tajweed brings out the beauty of the Quran, and you feel joy by reciting it with tajweed
  • Make sure to memorize with a qualified sheikh/teacher
  • Start from day one, don’t start and then say “I want to learn tajweed!”
  • the one who recites with tajweed has a different status than the one who recites without tajweed
  • Aishah r.a. narrates that Rasululah saw once said, “One who  is well versed in the Quran will be in the company of those angels who are scribes, noble and righteous and one who falters in reading the Quran, and has to exert hard for learning, gets double the reward [Muslim]
  • people might think that the latter in this hadith is better than the former, but no, the former will be resurected with the prophets and angels while the latter will get his double reward, one for reciting and the other for struggling to recite it
  • Why would one want to memorize the Quran? To please Allah, win His love and be one of His people
  • How can one be of His people when one disobeys Him? So, one important rule when memorizing Quran is to abandon all types of sins
  • There are sense organs that are involved when memorizing the Quran
  • The eyes, are used to read the best of speech that Allah articulated Himself. How can those very eyes then do sins and at the same time memorize these words?
  • The ear,  keep it away from all that anger Allah
  • You use it to listen to Quran so you can perfect it and memorize it, so how can then you use these ears to listen to songs that anger Allah
  • it is said, “The love of the Quran and the love of melodies of music can never co-exist in the heart of a servant.”
  • The tongue ; never use it to backbite or accuse people or say anything that is displeasing to Allah, because you use this very organ to recite the words of Allah
  • if one insists on sins, his heart will eventually be affected
  • Imam Shafie said upon realizing the intelligence and wisdom of Imam Malik, “Allah has led a light in your heart, so don’t turn it off by the darkness of sins.”
