On A Slippery Road

Have you ever walked on a slippery path? How do you walk? Do you sashay? Do you march? Do you stroll? Or do you watch your every step so you won’t fall flat on your face, or behind. i find this a very beautiful way of explaining what having taqwa means. I have never heard it explained this way before. May Allah reward the sister for sharing this.

Taqwa comes from wiqaayah which means “to safeguard”and from the same root comes a word which means jacket. What does a jacket do? A jacket keeps us protected from the elements such as the wind or snow. Taqwa also protects us from the elements, such as the punishment in this world, and punishment of the hellfire, evils and everything that is wrong. When we have taqwa, it is as if we are walking on a slippery path; we walk very carefully, watching our every step with care, thinking before each step if it will please or anger Allah. When you see a patch of ice, you veer away, not even wanting to go near it. Having taqwa means you don’t even approach something sinful, you try your best to stay away from it.

That is what having taqwa means. Beautiful.
